Russian Dinara Safina enjoyed a straightforward 6-1 6-2 victory over compatriot Ksenia Pervak to reach the quarter-finals of the Slovenia Open. The world number one survived three break points in the third game of the first set and was broken in the second, but was otherwise untroubled by her 18-year-old opponent in a match that lasted 77 minutes. Safina will face Marina Elena Camerin in the next round after the Italian beat seventh-seeded Russian Vera Dushevina 4-6 7-5 6-0. Switzerland's Stefanie Voegele was a surprise winner when she faced sixth-seed Lucie Safarova, the Czech going down 7-5 2-6 6-3. Voegele goes forward to face Rossana De Los Rios of Paraguay after she beat fourth-seeded Italian Roberta Vinci 6-3 6-4 in another upset.
