Top seeded Nadia Petrova continued to bounce back from her US Open disappointment by progressing to the WTA Bell Challenge quarter-finals on Wednesday. The Russian, ranked 12th in the world, was ousted by US teenager Melanie Oudin in the fourth round in New York, but is the defending champion in Quebec City. And, after coming through her first round clash with American Carly Gullickson unscathed, she continued her impressive return with a 6-3 6-2 triumph over another American in Madison Brengle. In the quarter-finals Petrova will face fifth-seeded Hungarian Melinda Czink, a 6-4 6-3 winner over France's Severine Bremond Beltrame. Russia's Alla Kudryavtseva upset sixth-seeded American Jill Craybas 7-5 6-2, meanwhile, and awaits the winner of Thursday's match between third-seeded home hope Aleksandra Wozniak and Russian Regina Kulikova. Number eight seed Julia Goerges punched her quarter-final ticket at the expense of another Canadian, downing wild card Rebecca Marino 6-2 6-3. Thursday's second-round matches will also include last year's runner-up, Bethanie Mattek-Sands, taking on fellow American Vania King.
