Fifth seed edges out Safarova in Canadian final on Sunday

Melinda Czink came from a set down against Lucie Safarova in the Bell Challenge final to claim her maiden WTA Tour title. The 26-year-old Hungarian, whose only other career final appearance came four years ago in Canberra, ended up a 4-6 6-3 7-5 winner in Quebec, Canada. The fifth seed took out defending champion Nadia Petrova and third seed Aleksandra Wozniak in the previous rounds, but admits her Czech opponent provided the sternest test. "It feels great," Czink said after the triumph. "I haven't really processed it yet, but I will. I went into match by match this week and this was the toughest. "I had to take some risks on her serve - sometimes it worked, sometimes it didn't. We really pushed each other and I'm happy I could come out the winner." Safarova now holds a 4-3 record in Tour finals, her four successes coming at Estoril and Forest Hills in 2005, Gold Coast in 2006 and Forest Hills in 2008.
