Brazilian claims success in first round of Thailand Open

Thomaz Bellucci will advance in the Thailand Open following his 6-4 7-6 (9-7) first-round defeat of Guillermo Garcia-Lopez. The victory marked Bellucci's second career win over the Spaniard following the one he took at a Challenger event in Morocco in 2008. Bellucci, who won the Gstaad clay title earlier this year, will now go through to the second round at the Impact Arena in the tournament where Frenchman Jo-Wilfried Tsonga is hoping to defend his title from 2008. The world number 61 advanced with four aces and two break point conversions from six chances, with Garcia-Lopez missing on 11 of 12 of his own break points. The Brazilian now faces a meeting with Serb Viktor Troicki, who had a bye in the first round. John Isner, the eighth seed, opened up his challenge by beating Kittipong Wachiramanowong 6-3 3-6 7-6. Tenth-ranked Frenchman Gilles Simon, making his debut at Bangkok, will appear along with world number 25 American Sam Querrey, who broke through with a trophy at the Los Angeles event before the US Open.
