Second seed capitalises on errors of Troicki

Gilles Simon of France claimed his first title of the year with a 7-5 6-3 victory over Serbia's Viktor Troicki in the final of the Thailand Open. In a closely-fought contest in Bangkok, Troicki was the first to break at 4-4 in the opening set but Simon immediately broke back as his opponent attempted to serve for the set. The French second seed earned a second break to clinch it as Troicki faltered and a solitary break in the sixth game of the second set was enough to seal victory in an hour and 15 minutes. The success was Simon's sixth on the ATP Tour while his opponent continues his search for a maiden win. "I had a difficult match but I found a way to win," said Simon, who is still in the running to win a place at the season-ending ATP World Tour Finals in London. "I really enjoyed myself today. "I've been feeling good and playing well all week. It's late in the year, but it's still good to get my first title of 2009. "It was perfect for me this week. I've worked hard in the last few months, especially with my knee injury. It was tough to get ready for this event but I played really well."
