Third seed sees off qualifier to keep home hopes alive

Mikhail Youzhny and Janko Tipsarevic will meet in the final of the ATP Kremlin Cup after the pair cruised through their respective semi-finals in Moscow. Third seed Youzhny proved too powerful for qualifier Mikhail Kukushkin, despatching his opponent from Kazakhstan 6-2 6-1 in less than an hour and 10 minutes. The world number 30, who reached the semi-finals of the event five years ago, smashed six aces to move within one victory of lifting the title. Sixth seed Tipsarevic was also untroubled by his opponent, thrashing Ukrainian qualifier Ilya Marchenko 6-1 6-4 to reach his first ATP final. The 25-year-old Serb raced to a 5-0 lead against the world number 190, who was appearing in his maiden semi-final. Marchenko put up more of a fight in the second set but Tipsarevic made a decisive break for 4-3 before securing victory three games later. "I got a huge boost and confidence in my game once I made the first break," said Tipsarevic, who had retired from his last tournament in Metz with an ankle injury.
