French ace to take on Japanese veteran

Top seed Marion Bartoli advanced to the semi-finals of the Tournament of Champions in Bali after gaining victory over Israel's Shahar Peer. The Frenchwoman beat Peer 6-3 6-2 in the 76 minute encounter, setting up a clash with Kimiko Date Krumm of Japan for a place in the final. Date Krumm progressed to the last four after her Belgian opponent Yanina Wickmayer withdrew following the news of her one-year ban for missing doping tests. The world number 18 was suspended on Thursday by the Flemish Doping Tribunal after failing to declare her whereabouts on three occasions. Russia's Vera Dushevina took Wickmayer's place in the draw and defeated Spaniard Anabel Medina Garrigues 2-6 6-1 7-5, but Date Krumm's place in the last four had already been confirmed. France's Aravane Rezai also made it through to the semi-finals and will play Maria Jose Martinez Sanchez after the Spaniard earned a 7-6 (7/4) 7-5 win over second-seeded Australian Samantha Stosur.
