Number three seed Zheng Jie was sent packing from the Malaysian Open after crashing to defeat at the hands of Taiwan's Kai Chen Chang. World number 21 Zheng was simply blown away during the second round contest, eventually perishing to a 6-2 6-3 defeat in just 75 minutes. South Africa's Chanelle Scheepers joined Chang in the quarter-finals with a battling 4-6 6-2 6-3 victory over Germany's Tatjana Malek. Scheepers, 26, who is the South African number one, was given a scare by Malek before eventually prevailing in two hours and 27 minutes. Meanwhile, seventh seed Magdalena Rybarikova of Slovakia defeated wildcard entry Noppawan Lertcheewakarn 6-4 7-5 to book a last eight date with top seed Elena Dementieva. Also through to the last eight is Austria's sixth seed Sybille Bammer after she breezed past Uzbekistan's Akgul Amanmuradova 6-3 6-0.
