Italian Andreas Seppi secured an early victory to set up a second round clash with world number four Andy Murray at the BNP Paribas Open at Indian Wells. Seppi, ranked 46th in the world, saw off American wild-card entry Robby Ginepri 2-6 7-5 (7-5) 6-3 to book his showdown with the British number one, who has a first-round bye. Another American wild-card to make a swift exit was Jesse Levine, who lost to Dudi Sela of Israel 6-2 6-2. Argentinean wild-card David Nalbandian safely negotiated his way through the first round with a 6-2 7-6 (7-2) defeat of qualifier Stefan Koubek, while American James Blake stormed past Spaniard Daniel Gimeno-Traver 6-3 6-2. Frenchman Richard Gasquet made an early exit after falling to Simon Greul of Germany in a tough 7-6 (10-8) 7-6 (9-7) battle. Also through to the next round are Victor Hanescu, Arnaud Clement, Sergiy Stakhovsky, Thiemo De Bakker, Yen-Hsun Lu, Michael Russell, Nicolas Almagro, Marinko Matosevic, Ricardo Mello, Paul-Henri Mathieu and Evgeny Korolev.
