Lorenzi beaten in deciding tie-break

Former French Open quarter-finalist Juan Ignacio Chela saw off the challenge of Paolo Lorenzi to reach the second round of the men's singles at the Sony Ericsson Open in Miami on Thursday. The Argentinian saved nine break points on the way to securing the opening set 6-4 but could not prevent his Italian opponent from hitting back to take the second 6-3. The deciding set went to a tie-break and it was Chela who prevailed 7-3. Ecuadorian veteran Nicolas Lapentti is also through after he beat Potito Starace 7-5 6-3, but Lapentti now has the unenviable task of facing world number one Roger Federer in the second round. World number 47 Andreas Seppi is out after he was dumped out by Argentina's Horacio Zeballos in straight sets. Qualifiers Kevin Anderson and and Yen-hsun Lu also booked places in round two as they beat Ricardo Mello and Fabio Fognini respectively. There were also victories for Dudi Sela, Alejandro Falla, Stephane Robert, Michael Berrer and Peter Luczak.
