Youngster continues winning run in Fes

Romanian teenager Simona Halep overcame Renata Voracova to reach the final of the Grand Prix De SAR La Princesse Lalla Meryem in Morocco. The 18-year-old qualifier, who upset second seed Patty Schnyder in their quarter-final on Thursday, took an hour and a half to see off Czech Voracova 7-5 6-4. Halep will now take on another Czech, Iveta Benesova, in her first WTA Tour final on Saturday.

Scare

Seventh seed Benesova survived a scare before defeating Frenchwoman Alize Cornet 6-3 4-6 7-5. With the match tied at one set apiece, Benesova seemed to have her victory in the bag when she won the first four games of the decider, but Cornet fought back to secure the next five games, leaving her serving for the match. However, Benesova broke straight back and held her serve to close out the win and book her place in the final.
