Belgian forced out of Madrid Open with foot injury

Kim Clijsters is facing a race against time to be fit for the French Open starting on May 24 after sustaining a foot injury. The Belgian, who came out of retirement to win the US Open last year, has pulled out of next week's Madrid Open after suffering a torn muscle during the Fed Cup victory over Estonia. "This type of injury requires several weeks rest. Her participation in the Madrid tournament is premature," a statement said. "We're waiting to see how the treatment goes before considering Kim's return to competition." Reports suggest the injury could take up to six weeks to heal fully.
