Big-serving American Taylor Dent has decided to retire from professional tennis.
The 29-year-old was once ranked as high as 21 in the world but his career was severely disrupted by a series of back operations in 2006 and 2007.
He managed to climb back into the top 100 during last season and was ranked 85th, with a year-long record of 12-19 in 2010.
Dent said in a statement that he would like to stay active in the sport and "explore opportunities ... that my full tournament scheduled never allowed."
One of the only remaining players to still use a serve-and-volley style, Dent four titles on the ATP Tour and reached the fourth round of Wimbledon in 2005.
