Wimbledon champ to play for Davis Cup holders on Friday

Novak Djokovic will play in the Davis Cup for Serbia on Friday - just five days after his Wimbledon triumph. The new world number one will face Sweden's Ervin Eleskovic - ranked 355 - in the second rubber in Halmstad after team-mate Viktor Troicki has taken on Michael Ryderstedt. Saturday's doubles rubber is due to see Simon Aspelin and Robert Lindstedt team up to face Janko Tipsarevic and Nenad Zimonjic. Serbia, the cup holders, are hot favourites to beat a Swedish side shorn of their top player, Robin Soderling, in the quarter-final tie.

Rest

Meanwhile, France have opted to rest Wimbledon semi-finalist Jo-Wilfried Tsonga on Friday for their clash in Germany. Instead Richard Gasquet has been nominated to open the tie against German number one Florian Mayer in what will be his first Davis Cup appearance for three years. World number seven Gael Monfils takes on Philipp Kohlschreiber in the second rubber. Tsonga has been named by captain Guy Forget for Saturday's doubles rubber. He is due to partner Michael Llodra against Christopher Kas and Philipp Petzschner. The line-ups for the tie between USA and Spain will be named later on Thursday, while the Argentina-Kazakhstan clash, featuring Juan Martin Del Potro, starts on Thursday.
