Juan Ignacio Chela claimed a battling win over Andreas Seppi to reach the semi-finals of the BDR Nastase Tiriac Trophy in Bucharest. The match featured 10 breaks of serve - six for Chela and four for Seppi - before the top seed and defending champion defeated his seventh-seeded Italian opponent 7-5 6-3 in one hour and 54 minutes. The Argentinian will next face fourth seed Pablo Andujar after the Spaniard, last year's losing finalist, beat Italian qualifier Alessandro Giannessi 6-3 6-4 after staving off nine out of 10 break points. World number 24 and second seed Florian Mayer eased through to the semis in just 67 minutes when he trounced Albert Ramos 6-1 6-2 to reach his fourth ATP World Tour semi of what has turned out to be his career-best season. On Saturday he will face world number 86 Filippo Volandri who crushed Brazil's Joao Souza 6-2 6-0 in an hour.
