Eighth seed Bernard Tomic impressively brushed aside Tommy Haas in the first round of the Delray Beach International Tennis Championships. Haas had been a break up early in the first set but Tomic fought back, before easing to a 6-4 6-3 victory in an hour and 11 minutes. Ryan Sweeting, who reached the quarter-finals here last year, emphatically came out on top of his all-American clash with Donald Young, running out a 6-1 6-1 victor in 52 minutes. Dudi Sela and Denis Istomin also recorded straight-sets victories in the first round. Sela toppled Denis Kudla 6-4 6-3, while Istomin was a 6-2 6-3 victor over Matthew Ebden although the 25-year-old needed to save seven break points.
