Serena Williams booked her place in a seventh Wimbledon final after the sixth-seeded four-time champion bludgeoned the highly-fancied second seed Victoria Azarenka off court with a scintillating display of serving and power hitting, coming through 6-3 7-6 (8-6) to stand just one win away from a fifth SW19 singles title. She sent down 24 aces - one more than the Wimbledon record she set on Saturday and landed 45 winners in a performance that even eclipsed the one she produced to dethrone defending champion Petra Kvitova at the quarter-final stage.
Stat of the day
Serena has now hit a total of 85 aces in the tournament. Only Germany's Philipp Kohlschreiber, who made the quarter-finals, has hit more aces with 98.
History lesson of the day
Agnieszka Radwanska became the first Pole for 75 years to reach a grand slam final after seeing off Angelique Kerber 6-3 6-4 on Centre Court. Jadwiga Jedrzejowska reached the finals at Wimbledon, the French Open and the US Open in the late 1930s. Her Wimbledon run came in 1937, with Britain's Dorothy Round her conqueror in three sets.
Quote of the day
Brazlilian journalist Renan Justi thinks Andy Murray will show his British side against Jo-Wilfried Tsonga on Friday. He said: "I've watched both of them play and I think Tsonga will come through because he is better prepared and British sportsmen do not win when it comes down to the final matches."
Steward of the day
Honorary steward David Spearing is the longest-serving steward at Wimbledon and guardian of the players' box. The 76-year-old, has worked at SW19 for 39 years, not missing a single tournament. For the past 15 years he has sat in Centre Court's players' box, marshalling the families, friends, coaches and trainers of some of the greatest names in tennis.
"The more famous the player is, the more likely I am to know the family," he said. "People like Federer has been the number one player and in the final for years, and as a result they are in almost every other day and I have got to know them extremely well. But I get to know the family more than the players usually. I've only just met Roger, he doesn't come into the box, but his wife is lovely."
And the 76-year-old has no plans to quit, hoping to continue for as long as he is "fit and healthy". He added: "I've said before, if I leave that box, it'll probably be in a long brown box."
