Andy Murray's Olympic odds cut following Rafael Nadal's withdrawal
Sky Bet have cut Andy Murray's Olympic gold medal odds for the men's singles event from 9/2 to
7/2 following Rafael Nadal's withdrawal.
Nadal revealed on Thursday that he is not fit enough to defend his title in the London Games, prompting a cut in the prices of all of his rivals, with world number one Novak Djokovic now
6/4 and Wimbledon champion Roger Federer
13/8.
The 26-year-old had already drifted out from 7/2 to 4/1 to retain his Olympics title after suffering a shock exit at Wimbledon at the hands of world 100 ranked Lukas Rosol.
Thwarted
Murray, who is looking to go one better than his recent final defeat at the All England Lawn Tennis Club, trails Nadal 13-5 in the head-to-head and has lost all three of their meetings at SW19.
Sky Bet Tennis trader Ned Brooker said: "While Nadal's withdrawal is a huge blow to the Olympics, Murray's chances have certainly been boosted, especially given his poor record against the Spaniard.
"Nadal is the only one of the top four to have triumphed at the Games and has a stunning record when representing his country in the Davis Cup, not to mention a two-time champion at Wimbledon - although his early exit at SW19 this year had seen him drift out from 7/2 to 4/1."
