Stan Wawrinka crashes out of Geneva Open quarter-finals

Stanislas Wawrinka saw his dream of landing a first ATP Tour title on home soil collapse after he crashed out of the Geneva Open at the quarter-final stage.

Top seed Wawrinka was shocked 6-7 (5-7) 6-4 6-4 by Argentina's Federico Delbonis in a match lasting over two hours.

Delbonis will now face Portuguese sixth seed Joao Sousa, who saved four match points in a third set tie-break to beat Spanish third seed Pablo Andujar 6-4 2-6 7-6 (8-6).

Second seed Marin Cilic also crashed out to Colombian world No 67 Santiago Giraldo, whose 7-5 6-3 win was his first over the Croatian in five attempts.

Giraldo did not face a single break point while breaking the US Open champion three times.

He will face Thomaz Bellucci in the semi-finals, after the Brazilian survived a torrid second set to beat Spain's Albert Ramos-Vinolas 6-0 1-6 6-3.
