Sheffield United have signed defender James Wilson from Oldham on a two-year deal.

Wilson, 27, was a free agent this summer following the expiry of his contract at Oldham and has opted to join Sky Bet League One rivals United.

"James is an athletic, mobile centre-half and knows this division," Blades boss Chris Wilder told the club's official website.

"He turned down a contract at Oldham and had other options but we've had him with us for a few days, had a good look at him and he will be a good addition to our squad."

Wilson is Wilder's third summer signing following the arrivals of winger Mark Duffy and defender Chris Hussey last month.
