Sheffield Wednesday midfielder Barry Bannan has signed a new three-and-a-half year contract with the club.

The 26-year-old Scotland international, who signed a one-year deal when arriving from Crystal Palace in the summer, has committed himself long-term to the Owls.

"Finally signed for another 3 and half years at Sheffield Wednesday. So happy to stay here loved it since day one now let's get promoted," Bannan said on his Twitter account.

Bannan, who has flourished under Owls head coach Carlos Carvalhal this season, left first club Celtic aged 14 to join Aston Villa's academy and made his debut as a teenager in a Europa League clash with Hamburg in 2009.

He made 89 appearances for Villa and had loan spells at Derby, Blackpool and Leeds before signing a permanent deal with Crystal Palace in September 2013.
