Bournemouth midfielder Shaun MacDonald has pledged his future to the club by signing a new one-year contract extension.

The 27-year-old joined Bournemouth from Swansea in 2011 and has made 99 appearances for the Cherries, featuring seven times this season.

MacDonald's previous deal at the Vitality Stadium was set to expire at the end of the current campaign and he admits the decision to commit himself to Bournemouth until June 2017 was an easy one to make.

"It's come at the right time," MacDonald told Cherries Player. "The club is going in the right direction, in the Premier League and it's a great squad that we have got here.

"To have that extra year and stay in around this squad can only benefit me. The contract has been ongoing for a little while, so I have had time to think about it and it's definitely the right thing to do."

MacDonald also revealed manager Eddie Howe was a major reason behind his decision to sign a new deal with the club.
