Defender Niall Canavan has signed a two-year contract with Rochdale after leaving Scunthorpe.

The 25-year-old joined Dale on an emergency loan from the Iron in February and has now agreed to move to Spotland on a permanent basis.

He told rochdaleafc.co.uk: "The offer has been on the table for a while, I'm delighted to be here and excited for the future.

"I really enjoyed my loan spell here and there is a great bunch of lads here, too. The management and staff have been brilliant with me and the fans, too.
