Crewe have signed Newcastle midfielder Liam Smith on loan until January.

Smith, 20, who spent time on loan at Blackpool last season, is hoping to feature in Crewe's friendly against Wolves on Friday at Gresty Road.

"Alexandra can confirm the signing of 20-year-old Newcastle United midfielder Liam Smith on a loan deal until January 9, 2017," the Sky Bet League Two club said on their official website.

Smith signed his first professional contract with Newcastle in 2015 after progressing through their academy and made eight appearances during his loan spell at Blackpool.
