Mauro Zarate's arrival at Watford is being delayed until Fiorentina have played Napoli on Tuesday, Sky sources say.

Zarate has passed a medical ahead of his loan return to the Premier League, where he previously played for Birmingham, West Ham and QPR.

But it is understood Watford want to hold back on registering the 29-year-old until he has served the first game of a three-match suspension for a red card in the Coppa Italia.

Zarate's ban is due to kick in on Tuesday, meaning he will have to sit out just two Watford games if his arrival is put back.

The deal is expected to go through before the weekend, which would rule out Zarate for Saturday's FA Cup trip to Millwall and Tuesday's Premier League game at Arsenal.
