Chelsea's Lewis Baker a target for Middlesbrough loan move

Middlesbrough are looking to Chelsea midfielder Lewis Baker as a possible replacement for Marten De Roon, Sky Sports News understands.

Sky sources reported earlier on Thursday that 'Boro have agreed a £13m fee with Serie A side Atalanta for De Roon's services and he has arrived in Italy for a medical.

Baker has been with Chelsea since 2005 but his sole senior appearance for the Blues came more than three years ago in an FA Cup third-round tie.

He had loan spells with Sheffield Wednesday and MK Dons, but has spent the last two seasons playing in the Netherlands with Vitesse Arnhem.

Baker, now 22, enjoyed his best season as a professional in 2016-17, when he scored 15 goals in all competitions to and helped them lift the Dutch Cup for the first time.

The England U21 midfielder would be another significant signing for Garry Monk's side, headed by £15m striker Britt Assombalonga.
