Transfer news: William Carvalho not unsettled at Sporting Lisbon

WILLIAM CARVALHO: The Portuguese powerhouse is a much-wanted commodity across Europe, but the £37.5m price may prove too much despite his obvious talents.

Sporting Lisbon midfielder William Carvalho has dismissed suggestions that he is unhappy at the club.

The Portugal international enjoyed a breakthrough 2013-14 campaign and was linked with a move to the Premier League in the summer transfer window.

Manchester United and Arsenal were both reported to be strongly interested in the 22-year-old, while Chelsea were also believed to be monitoring developments.

However, no deal materialised and Carvalho remained at Sporting, but his performance so far this season has left much to be desired.

There have been reports that the Portuguese defensive midfielder’s underpar displays are because of his unhappiness to secure a move away from Sporting, but Carvalho has rejected those claims.

"I can do more,” he told Sporting’s club paper. “I know I haven't been on my best this season, but it will turn around, hopefully against Porto on Friday.

“Nobody has ever heard me say that I wanted to leave or that I'm unhappy at Sporting. I've always been satisfied here.

"People who think my bad start to the season has anything to do with me being upset, have never been more wrong."
