Charlton have signed former Celtic striker Tony Watt from Belgian side Standard Liege for an undisclosed fee.

Watt has signed a three-and-a-half year deal with the Sky Bet Championship side and becomes Bob Peeters' third signing of the January transfer window following goalkeepers Marko Dmitrovic and Neil Etheridge.

The 21-year-old was loaned out by Celtic last season to another Belgian club Lierse, for whom he scored nine goals in 18 outings, and he completed a permanent move to Standard last summer for a fee of just over £1m.

Watt went on to score three goals in 21 appearances for them and Peeters is delighted to add him to the attacking options at The Valley for the second half of the season.

"He’s a guy who can score goals, he has a lot of pace, especially round the back of the defence, and although he’s only 21 he has a lot of experience already and has played in the Champions League," Peeters said.

"He didn’t have his best period at Standard, but I think now that he’s back in a country where they speak English, and he feels at ease, he can do the job.

"He needs a little bit of time to settle in, but I hope the fans can back him up and give him the confidence that he will need to be the player that he can be."
