Celtic's move for Dundee United midfielder Stuart Armstrong is 'almost certainly' off, according to Sky Sports sources.

The 22-year-old has been the subject of several bids from the Scottish champions, but the clubs have been unable to agree a transfer fee.

Armstrong has made 24 appearances for United this season, scoring six goals, and was part of the side which beat Aberdeen 2-1 on Saturday to reach the Scottish League Cup final where they will face Celtic.

The Scotland Under-21 international had also been the subject of a bid from Premier League side Burnley which the Terrors also turned down.

Armstrong has spent his entire professional career at Tannadice since making his debut in 2010.
