Burton have made their first summer signing with the arrival of defender Ben Turner.
Turner, 28, a free agent following his release by Cardiff in May, has signed a one-year deal with the newly-promoted Sky Bet Championship club.
"He's a good, experienced centre-half and someone we have admired for a few years," Brewers boss Nigel Clough told the club's official website.
"We have got good character references back as well from a few people we respect.
"He has Premier League experience with Cardiff as well. He knows all about the Championship and will be a good asset."
Turner, restricted to 14 appearances in his last two seasons at Cardiff due to injury, started out at Coventry and made over 70 first-team appearances there before the Welsh club paid B#750,000 for him in August 2011.
He made more than 120 appearances for Cardiff and had a loan spell back at first club Coventry at the end of last year.
