David Pipe has returned for a second spell at Newport after agreeing a loan move from non-league Eastleigh.
The 33-year-old defender, who made more than 100 appearances for the Exiles between 2011 and 2014, will stay with the Sky Bet League Two side until the end of the season.
Newport manager Graham Westley told the club's official website: "David is a seasoned pro, a club stalwart, and an experienced leader with a passion to re-establish Newport County as a respected League Two outfit.
"We need to start making a serious mark and he brings the character and resilience that we need right now."
Pipe, who was capped once by Wales in 2003, has also played for Coventry, Notts County, Bristol Rovers, Cheltenham and Forest Green.
