Melalchrist is preferred to Kings College Boy and Ryedale Ovation. The five-year-old looks to be really enjoying life these days and the confirmed front-runner ground his rivals into submission when scoring over course-and-distance last time out. If gaining a soft lead, he will be difficult to peg back. Kings College Boy ran on to be placed in that contest. He has the ability to win a race of this nature but his win to run ratio shows how frustrating he is. Ryedale Ovation cannot be discounted if the ground dries out. His form is much better on surfaces that are sound. Hold up performer, Hotham, is another for whom better ground would not inconvenience. Smokin Beau has lost his way badly and cannot be backed with confidence at the moment. Funfair Wane and Divine Spirit are both in good heart at the moment while Legal Set could have place claims if running up to his best. The usual suspects on view and Melalchrist is the pick.
