Verdict

FAITH JICARO looks capable of taking this opener, while Volatilis and Professor John can also get involved. The selection is no nailed on certainty here despite running very well in context on debut at Haydock. That was over a similar trip to this, and with natural improvement we could be forgiven for thinking that this race is there for the taking. However, that form was also on good to firm ground and pedigree suggests that the filly may not be at home with cut in the ground, and she probably won't represent much in the way of value either. Volatilis should be no back number after three improving runs so far, including when not far away on fast ground at Salisbury last time. He too is unproven on cut but if handling the ground should be capable of giving the favourite a bit to think about. Professor John was given a quiet debut at Yarmouth, but could well improve significantly for it and he is respected in such a moderate affair. Pictures is not an obvious debut winner for Luca Cumani, but market support would raise the interest, though Faith Jicaro looks to be the most likely winner.
