        In depth

        Verdict

        Sir Chauvelin had little chance in the Lonsdale at York last time but won on fast ground at Goodwood before that with Hochfeld back in third. The latter was narrowly beaten here subsequently while Gabrial won over 1m2f in soft going at Epsom recently but has plenty to prove over today’s trip. Mountain Bell won this in 2016 but was well beaten in last month’s Ebor when BLAKENEY POINT finished a creditable fifth. Roger Charlton’s charge will handle the underfoot conditions and may just edge this. Shailene is one of the least exposed though has only won on the all-weather so far.
