Verdict

Nicky Henderson has won this twice in recent years and CAPE EXPRESS looks to have a fine chance of adding to the tally. He's won a couple of times over 1m4f on the Flat but he arrives here having completed facile victories over hurdles and looks capable of a higher rating than 84. Veiled also represents Henderson and he could well provide the main threat. He was a long way behind Never Can Tell in the Cesarewitch in October but had earlier won the Ascot Stakes at the Royal meeting which is more a reflection of his form. Never Can Tell has run poorly in his two runs so far this season and though Orsippus should have no problems with the trip he's shot up the weights after scoring at Pontefract. Romeo Montague, a very good third to Simenon in the Queen Alexandra, scored over 2m back at Ascot subsequently though both runs were on soft ground. The lightly-raced Beyond is a promising stayer while those looking for an each-way shot could do worse than Irish raider Defence Of Duress, formerly with Tom Tate and reunited with Jamie Spencer, who was on board for his only success to date.
