In depth

Verdict

Any number to consider in a really good race but necessity demands that we draw up a short-list and it reads as follows: Red Icon, Barricado and Hawk House. Red Icon has the dubious honour of receiving our nomination following an encouraging run in a maiden here last time which qualified her for a mark. She stayed on well from the rear to finish a never nearer sixth and shaped as though this longer trip would suit. The second went on to win a warm maiden at the weekend and the third scored on Monday at Redcar. Rock Peak was the subject of positive bulletins both last season and prior to his reappearance at Windsor. He still has it to prove but handicapping could be his preferred metier and he's of interest. What's also of interest is that Steve Drown defects to Barricado who has bumped into useful rivals the last twice in maidens and may be more at home in this company. The fact that Barry Hill is prepared to run Hawk House from out of the handicap also takes our eye and the Alhaarth gelding has done enough in his four starts to suggest that he should be a factor in handicaps. Those are just three amongst many to consider in this heat with Red Icon our pick.
