In depth

Verdict

Hairdryer was not given an unduly hard time on debut at Salisbury and given the confidence with which he was backed, it would be folly to be writing him off just yet. John Gosden had a 60% success rate with his juveniles at Haydock last season so Cymric should have a say in this contest. He was a far from cheap as a yearling and the trainer took the tremendously bold step of running him in the Chesham Stakes on debut. JOHN SPLENDID has knocked on the door in two maidens so far and he can make his experience count. The form of his Newbury debut has been working out well and a repeat will make him hard to beat. Both Sides ran green on debut at Sandown and will have learnt plenty for the experience. Canford Crossing was bred with speed in mind and connections would have envisaged a somewhat easier introduction.
