Verdict

A modest race can go the way of TORPHICHEN, who gets the nomination ahead of Mr Burton and Hawk House. The last-named is exposed as ordinary but has proven form at this trip. His consistency deserves reward but he does look vulnerable to an improver at this stage of his career. Mr Burton, like Scania Classic, has experience of racing under both codes but his lack of success has marked him down as one to be wary of for the time being. Still, this will not take much winning and he may the best alternative if the selection fails to live up to expectations. However, Torphichen has been steadily brought along by Michael Jarvis and, with a very handy weight-for-age allowance boosting his claims, the mount of Phillip Robinson stands out as the one to side with in this very ordinary maiden.
