In depth

Verdict

The trio for the shortlist are SONNY G, Ostentation and D'urberville and the vote is given to Sonny G. This race will not take much winning and Sonny G shaped with a bit of promise on his handicap debut over 7f here last time. He didn't settle very well that day, but this extra furlong should suit and he could be worth another chance. Mark Johnston has his string in good form so Ostentation looks one to consider. He wasn't beaten all that far on his handicap debut over 7f here back in November and as he was slowly away that day, it is fair to assume that there may be better to come. D'urberville finished behind our selection last time when he was denied a clear run. A reproduction of that effort would give him a big chance, but he is more exposed than our choice and we think he may have to play second fiddle to him again today. Holkham has shaped with a bit of promise in maiden company and he could be worth a look on his handicap debut, especially as he is bred to be suited by this longer trip. However, we are happy to nominate Sonny G to lead them home.
