The draw could play a huge role here and it often pays to be drawn high so we'll take a chance with FIREBACK ahead of Alice Alleyne whilst Atlaal makes some appeal of those drawn low. Fireback is still a maiden but he does have the advantage of having a run under his belt which came on the all-weather track at this venue in April. Andrew Balding's gelding progressed quietly in his three starts in maidens last and took another step forwards when finishing a long way clear of the field in second last month and may be able to continue to progress. Alice Alleyne doesn't look too badly treated on a line through Whirly Dancer who finished third in the maiden which she won at Wolverhampton in October but the remainder of the prominent runners hold the form down so she's probably on no more than a fair mark. Atlaal gave trouble at the start on a couple of occasions last term and may not have fully demonstrated the ability that led to him being given Pattern race entries; a mark of 85 could underestimate him if he proves to be a little calmer now that he's another year on his back. He's feared in a race where a good many more have claims but a high draw may assist Fireback in going close.
