Verdict

Alpine Reel is taken to land this 9f handicap for Walter Swinburn, with Consonant, Cactus King and Don Pietro also likely to show up well. The selection was a beaten favourite when third to Bahar Shumaal over c&d last time, but in the context of this race that effort would entitle him to go off favourite once more here. His penultimate run here behind Country Escape is further evidence that he acts on the track and he is taken to score. Consonant has Darryll Holland up, just as he had when pipped by a head here last time out. That run was certainly good enough to give him a clear chance here and we expect him to be in the mix. Meanwhile, John Gosden's Cactus King drops in class to take on these rivals and is more than capable of getting involved, though he'd have to show more than last time out, and whether he really enjoys it here will probably be revealed with this run. Don Pietro has been bridesmaid plenty of late. He doesn't look ungenuine, but simply seems to lack a turn of foot, whatever the pace of the contest. It could be more of the same again here for him, and we take Alpine Reel to score.
