An Argentine rugby union player has been handed a 99-year ban for kicking an opponent in the head, according to reports in Argentina.
Prop Cipriano Martinez was playing for Pucara Club last weekend when his boot connected with the head of San Albano lock Juan Masi during a Torneo de la URBA match, part of Argentina's major provincial rugby competition.
Martinez was red-carded by the referee and his club have reportedly pre-empted any official sanction by banning him for 99 years.
"Pucara Club renounces the anti-sporting conduct which occurred in the match against San Albano," read a statement from Pucara Club.
"We wish to extend appropriate apologies to the injured player, to the San Albano club, and to rugby in general."
