It may be cold here at the moment - but Will Greenwood is off to the North Pole in April in order to raise half a million pounds for charity

England rugby legend and Sky Sports pundit Will Greenwood is going to the North Pole in April in a bid to raise half a million pounds for charity.

Greenwood and eight other volunteers will walk to the Pole in order to highlight the biggest cause of death and disability among children under the age of five - preterm birth - and to raise £500,000 for research into its prevention.

Led by trained explorers, Greenwood will be pulling a sled around 120 kilometres for six to seven days in temperatures of minus 50 to 60 degrees.

It is a cause close to the heart of the World Cup winner because he and his wife Caroline lost their first child, Freddy, who was born at 22 weeks.

Among the other volunteers will be former Special Forces Sergeant, turned TV presenter, Jason Fox and the expedition will be led by celebrated polar explorer Alan Chambers MBE.

Greenwood said: "Thankfully I am being looked after by two epically cool and tough ex-military men, so I am hoping to keep all my fingers and toes, and come back having raised a few quid.
