Wallaby fly-half Quade Cooper has been suspended for three weeks by the SANZAAR Judiciary for a dangerous tackle against the Lions in South Africa last weekend.

Cooper was red-carded for the incident early in the second half of the Reds' 44-14 loss against the Lions in Johannesburg.

"With respect to the sanction the Judicial Committee deemed the act of foul play merited a mid-range entry point of six weeks," the committee said.

"However, taking into account mitigating factors including the player's admission of guilt, his remorse and the fact that the player had a good disciplinary record having not come under notice since 2012, the Judicial Committee reduced the suspension to three weeks."

Cooper will be out of Super Rugby up to and including Saturday, April 8.
