England are Six Nations underdogs against Scotland, says Eddie Jones

Eddie Jones believes England will start as underdogs when they take on Scotland at Murrayfield in next week's Six Nations opener.

A revitalised Scotland, coached by Vern Cotter, reached the quarter-finals of the World Cup, losing narrowly to Australia, while England failed to get out of their pool - the first hosts not to do so.

England's failure resulted in Stuart Lancaster losing his job and with former Australia and Japan coach Jones succeeding him last month.

"It's one of the most traditional sporting events in the world - let alone rugby - as a kid you grew up watching it so be part of it is absolutely fascinating," Jones told Sky Sports News HQ.

"It's so different us going up there as underdogs. Scotland had a fantastic World Cup - they have excellent coaching staff and will be well prepared. We are going up there six days together as a team.

"So for us it's a game where we can restore some pride in English rugby against a Scottish team on top of the world."

Scotland's only win in their last 12 Six Nations games was a 21-20 win over Italy in Rome in 2014 and they have not beaten England since 2008.
