England and Saracens prop Mako Vunipola will have a scan on his injured knee this week and is a major doubt for the Six Nations.

Vunipola suffered a knee ligament injury playing for Saracens before Christmas and will only see a specialist this week.

He is unlikely to be fit for England's Six Nations opener against France on February 4 and his participation in the tournament will depend on the severity of the damage.

The 25-year-old played in every game of England's unbeaten year, helping them to a Grand Slam and a series whitewash in Australia under Eddie Jones.

His absence would add to Jones' problems in the front-row with fellow loosehead Joe Marler also a doubt for the start of the Six Nations with a calf injury.
