Worcester Warriors full back Chris Pennell has extended his contract with the Aviva Premiership club.

The 29-year-old, who was already signed up at Sixways until June 2017, has now agreed a new deal for an unspecified period.

Pennell made his top-flight Worcester debut in 2007, and has gone on to score 34 tries in 165 appearances.

Worcester rugby director Dean Ryan said: "Chris has been an outstanding member of the squad, both on and off the field, and we're delighted he has decided to commit his future to the club."

The international player was capped by England on the 2014 summer tour of New Zealand, and was also nominated for Premiership player of the season honours in the same year.

Ryan, who wants to bolster his team for the 2016-17 season, is confident the defensive player can take on Europe's best.

"We are looking to build a side capable of challenging Europe's elite, and Chris certainly possesses the qualities and characteristics which are essential to that," the director added.

"He is on board with what we want to achieve here at Sixways, and he is one person who can certainly help us reach our targets."
