Mitchell drawn by the Force

Drew Mitchell has agreed a three-year deal to join the Perth-based Western Force.

Drew Mitchell has agreed a three-year deal to join Western Force for the start of the 2007 Super 14 season.

Mitchell can play on the wing or at full back and is the leading try scorer for Queensland Reds this season.

The 22-year-old has won 10 caps for Australia and spurned two other suitors to join the Perth-based Force.

"This is a rugby decision," he said. "The opportunity to potentially play full back regularly was a big attraction and I'm looking forward to the challenges that lay ahead."

Rugby WA chief executive Peter O'Meara added: "He's not only versatile - being able to play at full back, either wing or at outside centre - Drew is young and we'll help him reach his full potential and he'll be a key part of our long-term future.

"We're delighted he has made the move for football and lifestyle reasons, not financial ones."

Mitchell joins fellow Wallaby Matt Giteau in Perth next season, after Giteau signed a three-year deal worth a reported US$3.3m in April.
