Paul O'Connell says it is important for a Lions captain to lead with their actions.

Paul O'Connell discusses the qualities needed to captain the British and Irish Lions.

With the British and Irish Lions squad announcement on April 19 rapidly approaching, the thoughts of many have turned to who may lead Warren Gatland's men as they face the world champions - including former Lions tourist and 2009 skipper Paul O'Connell.

The 2017 British and Irish Lions will kick off their tour to New Zealand on June 3 when they take on a Provincial Union XV at the Toll Stadium in Whangarei.

Who should start for the British and Lions in their first Test against New Zealand in June?

The last time the Lions toured New Zealand, 12 years ago, they were beaten 3-0 in the Test matches. They return this year looking to get revenge and build on their 2013 Test series win against Australia.

However, New Zealand are the best team in the world, with Ireland the only side to inflict defeat on them since they became world champions in 2015. The task for the Lions is therefore a tough one, but with England, Ireland and Wales all currently ranked in the top five nations in world rugby, the series is sure to be a classic.

Sky Sports will take you to every tour match and all three Tests as Warren Gatland's men look to create history this summer.
