Middlesex: Contract extension for young fast bowler Harry Podmore
Tuesday 2 December 2014 17:42, UK
Young fast bowler Harry Podmore has signed a one-year contract extension to his current deal at Middlesex.
The announcement from Lord’s means the 20-year-old will remain at the club until at least the end of the 2016 domestic season.
Podmore made 13 one-day appearances during the summer of 2014 – in the 50-over and T20 formats – taking a total of 13 wickets. He also performed well in the longer format of the game when playing in second XI matches.
His best display came in the T20 Blast when he claimed 3-13 against Gloucestershire at Lord's.
Podmore has been selected for the England Performance Programme which is for promising young fast bowlers within the county game.
Middlesex's managing director of cricket, Angus Fraser, said of Podmore: "Harry had an extremely encouraging first full season with Middlesex.
“In it he played more first team cricket than any of us probably imagined he would when we sat down at the start of the season.
“His cricket developed on the back of his time in the first eleven and he enjoyed playing in front of big crowds, which is encouraging.
“The challenge for Harry now is to continue to work hard and improve, so that he establishes himself as one of the leading white ball bowlers on our staff."
